Rain season in the Western Cape is between May and August which means that April is an ideal time to address outdoor property maintenance so your buildings will be ready to handle the rain when it begins.

Gutters: Check your gutters for lose points, cracks, and blockages. Clear gutters and run a hose through them to ensure they are flowing properly. A faulty gutter can lead to problems, such as leaks in your roof.

Check your roof: Look for loose tiles, shingles, broken flashing around vents and for any chimney damage. If you see damages, call a professional for the repairs.

Lawn damage: Lulls and dips near the foundations and driveways should be filled in so water drains away from the structure.

Walkways: Check for cracks in cement slabs, filling them in with crack filler and be sure that pathways, paving, and driveways slant away from the foundations for proper drainage.

Decking: If you have a wooden deck, balcony, canopy, or similar structures consider if it needs to be varnished and sealed to avoid rot taking place.
